Monica Lanyado first brought together her thoughts on the importance of transitional experiences and phenomena in relation to meditative states of mind in the therapist in a chapter  in Winnicott’s children: independent psychoanalytic approaches with children. Her Madeleine Davis Lecture will provide an opportunity to hear about her further developments and reflections on this theme over the last decade.

Monica Lanyado is a training supervisor at the British Association of Psychotherapists (BAP). Her publications include The Presence of the Therapist: Treating Childhood Trauma and Transforming Despair to Hope: Reflections on the Psychotherapeutic Process with Severely Neglected and Traumatised Children and she is co-editor with Ann Horne of the first edition of The Handbook of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and Through Assessment to Consultation: Independent Psychoanalytic Approaches with Children and Adolescents.

Deirdre Dowling is a child, adolescent and adult psychoanalytic psychotherapist trained at the British Psychotherapy Foundation (BPF). Monica and Deirdre have collaborated in running a number of meditation and psychotherapy events.
